The Theological Grounds for Advocating Forgiveness and Reconciliation in the Socio-political Realm

ALAN J TORRANCE
Professor of Systematic Theology St Mary’s College, University of St Andrews

An expanded version of the paper given by Professor Torrance at the ECONI conference on Reconciliation in October 2003, this short booklet offers a scholarly biblical exploration of understandings of and approaches to forgiveness and reconciliation. In it he strongly challenges the balancing logic of the ‘scales of justice’ approach and instead argues that ‘evangelical repentance’, a practice that models God’s covenant with humanity, should govern human relationships, even in politics.

This booklet is the first in a new series of Centre publications contributing to theological perspectives on issues of concern in our changing world.

This resource, priced at £5, will be available in November 2006. You can pre-order a copy by contacting Anna Rankin (anna.rankin@contemporarychristianity.org, 028 90325258). Any orders received before 3rd November, 2006 will be entitled to free postage.
