"Have you given any thought to promoting local groups of ECONI supporters?"
This was one of many comments made during the November Conference.

The answer is, "Yes, we have thought about it!" It has always been our hope that people would work out the ECONI vision in their own areas, using the materials we have developed - particularly the Ac-tion Packs.

Local people know best what opportunities exist in their area; they know others who share their con-cerns. ECONI's role would be to act as a catalyst, giving encouragement and support where it can. However, it would be the people on the ground who would be most important. Local initiative, driven by people who make things happen, would be the most effective means of setting up these groups.

Local ECONI groups may be able to gain access to schools through participation in the teaching of RE and involvement in the EMU programme. Local churches might welcome a local group's input into their programmes. Why not submit an article to a local newspaper about ECONI? Why not write a letter to see what the local interest might be? Needless to say, if a consequence of this was in-creased prayer support and financial backing for ECONI it would be greatly welcomed.

Perhaps such groups could establish contacts with the Roman Catholic community to discuss their mu-tual fears and suspicions in the light of biblical principles. Might this be a way forward for those who are looking for an opportunity to be peace-makers?

ECONI does not want to build an empire. We do not envisage the creation of a highly structured or-ganisation, run by and accountable to ECONI. We do want to see those who share ECONI's vision funding ways to make that vision a reality in their own community. Our aim is to encourage, help and support local people to do the things that need to be done in their communities.

If you are interested in the possibility of becoming involved in your area contact us at (028) 9032 5258. There may be more people in your area who share your vision than you realise. At the very least, we can put you in touch with one another. Then, where we can, we will do what we can to help.
