THE LONG ROAD TO HEALING
Since its inception in 1987 ECONI has sought to apply biblical principles to the situation in Northern Ireland. Evangelicals have had to respond to the conflict of nationality and culture that exists in this community. ECONI's goal has been to enable evangelicals to question their response. We were 'Evangelicals Asking Questions', primarily of ourselves.

That task still remains at the heart of ECONI's work. Yet moving it forward requires a different approach. Our conviction is that while peace seems a growing possibility, the years ahead represent a long road to healing for the community in Northern Ireland.

The healing of divisions, hurt, hostility and bitterness is an essentially spiritual task. The Good News is about healing for the nations which God has provided in Christ. It is a task which requires more than questions - it requires a long term commitment to understanding and living out the way of Christ in the context in which we seek to witness.

Our role is not to set up an ECONI empire, but to be a catalyst for the Church and Christian organisations as they relate to the challenge of living and witnessing in this part of God's world.

We plan to do this in three areas:

  • PROVIDING RESOURCES to enable Christians to develop a biblical response.
  • RAISING AWARENESS of the issues for believers in a situation of conflict.
  • ENGAGING CONSTRUCTIVELY with the search for peace and healing in our community.

A number of exciting projects are planned in the months and years ahead in fulfilment of this role.
